Kevin Plank purchased Sagamore Farm in 2007. His passion for Maryland and Thoroughbred racing led him to implement a long-term restoration plan of the historic property. His goal is to utilize Sagamore Racing as a platform to bring energy and winning back to Maryland Thoroughbred racing, and ultimately breed the next Triple Crown Winner.
The first win for a Sagamore Racing horse under Plank’s ownership was in 2007 by Bourbon Maid. The most notable victory to date has been Shared Account’s win in the Grade I Breeders’ Cup World Championships Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs in November 2010. Sagamore Racing ranked 53rd in earnings out of 33,830 racing stables in the nation that year.
Since then additional graded stakes wins for the Sagamore team include the Grade II Matron Stakes at Belmont Park with Millionreasonswhy, and the Grade III Commonwealth Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs with Humble and Hungry in 2011. In 2012, Tiger Walk became Plank's first Preakness Stakes entry, and Sagamore homebred, Walkwithapurpose captured the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship at Laurel Park.
