Monzon became the first Sagamore home-bred to participate in a Triple Crown race since Native Dancer (1953) when he was entered in the 143rd Belmont Stakes on June 11, 2011; his first career entry was as a two-year-old at Colonial Downs on July 17, 2010 where he finished sixth; went on to break his maiden at Laurel Park on Aug. 13, 2010, then won a second consecutive race at Delaware Park on Sept. 4, 2010; was also entered in the Bourbon Stakes (GIII) at Keenland on Oct. 10, 2010 (placing fifth) and the Gnome's Gold Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 31, 2010, finishing third; began his three-year-old campaign by coming from behind and win the Count Fleet Stakes by a length at Aqueduct on Jan. 1, 2011; competed in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (GIII) at Tampa Bay Downs (finishing fifth) on Feb. 12, 2011 and the Peter Pan Stakes (GII) on May 14, 2011, placing sixth; ran ninth in the Belmont Stakes (GI) on June 11, 2011 and finished eighth in his next race, the Choice Stakes on July 4, 2011 at Monmouth Park. Monzon has earned $98,144.
